SIC/NAICS Classification Codes
The
NAICS (North American Industry Classification Scheme) was introduced in 1997. It replaced the
SIC Codes (Standard Industrial Classification Codes) which were last updated in 1987. The SIC codes, dispite their age, remain in popular use.
You will see many SIC codes with up to 8 digits. The last 4 digits are not part of the official code but have been developed by individual business services to further break out lines of business. The last 4 digits are not standard among business services.
